Letting Go – Part 2
Monday 21 April 2025 – 27 April 2025
So my mum said something the other day about giving things away and blessing others. I should have written it down when I heard it. She said it so well, I was convicted.
Honestly, the truth is that I found it hard letting (material) things go.
I went through my room and I know I didn’t let go of enough. I don’t know about you, but have you ever done this: gone through all of your clothes, put things for washing, arranged everything else apart from the clean clothes and then when the clean clothes are back there’s no space to put them. Almost 😅 like I forgot they existed.
One more thing shocked me when I went through my clothes. I don’t know why, but I thought that more of my clothes would be made out of natural materials/fibres (cotton, linen, silk and wool) but it wasn’t so it was mainly polyester 🫠(especially since a lot of my clothes are from years ago). Going forward, I would like to change that balance. I really want more natural fibres for clothes and bedding. Anyways, back to the topic of letting go. I have more things that I want to give to charity. I really pray for God’s guidance, and help in letting things go to bless others and to provide space.
This week, I am reminded of this phrase: “why are you holding on to material things like God can’t bless you again?”
Then I searched the internet to see where that phrase came from, and I came across an article by Peggy Courtney titled Blessings are not possessions (https://eu.thenews-messenger.com/story/news/local/2014/11/23/blessings-possessions/19465619/)
The older I get, the more frequently I find myself taking a personal inventory

It got me thinking about two things.
First, Peggy wrote, “With age comes wisdom. I know that the blessings that matter the most are the ones that can’t be purchased”. I believe she has a good point: it is a blessing to wake up to another beautiful day and that is not something you can purchase. It also had me reflecting that I can be grateful for what I have but not cling to what I have not wanting to let go.
Lastly, a verse came to mind from Matthew 6 verse 19 “Do not store up for yourselves [material]treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal;”
Matthew 6:19-20 AMP

The message version says “Don’t hoard treasure down here where it gets eaten by moths and corroded by rust or—worse!—stolen by burglars. Stockpile treasure in heaven, where it’s safe from moth and rust and burglars. It’s obvious, isn’t it? The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.”
Matthew 6:19-21 MSG

I had never read the message till today. If I am being honest, I was approaching letting go from a lack mindset. So I am so grateful to be reminded that I am taking care of (Matthew 6 v 30-34). I believe the majority of my posts loop back to God because I realise more and more each day that his mercies are new every morning. I learn something new about his grace for me all the time.
I leave you with the following verse from Matthew chapter 6 (I will also read the whole chapter). Next time my update will be positive 🙏🏿
““If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”
